The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

There is an old saying which states that we should not judge a book by its cover, but it seems that that’s what has been happening to this is amazing book, which is one of the most precious works of the French literature.

The Little Prince was written by Antoine De Saint-Exupery in 1943, and until today it has been the holder of several titles. It is the third best-selling book ever, with over 100 million copies sold in over 250 languages.

In a mixture of philosophy and personal development, the author takes us on a journey to our true essence, and he helps us to revive the person we once were, before the world turns us on what we are today.

The book tells the story of an aircraft pilot, who fells while flying over the Sahara Desert due to serious technical problems in his aircraft. He had almost no resources and a nearby civilization to help him, when in the middle of nowhere a child appears. A child which would later on become the protagonist of the story.

This child is the Little Prince. He comes from a different and very small planet, where everything he does is watch the sunset, and take care of the existing plants on his planet. Until one day, a rose is born on this planet, and a relationship is formed between them. Startled by the resourcefulness of their own feelings, the Little Prince decides to get away, refuging himself on other planets.

After passing by several planets with very different characters, the Little Prince finally reaches the planet earth. Where he makes several discoveries, and starts to understand his real feelings towards his flower.

Antoine De Saint-Exupery illustrates a huge set of lessons which can be easily understood in each chapter of this book. Lessons about the importance of putting ourselves in the place of others, expressing our feelings and appreciating people while they are still around.

A very interesting fact is that Antoine de Saint-Exupery was also a pilot. He also had a serious accident while flying over the Sahara Desert, and was very fond of his wife Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry; who researchers believe to be the Flower, and the Little Prince nothing more than the author’s own metaphor.
