Even though it is becoming a very popular practice all around the world, very few of us really know what meditation is really all about.
Meditation is basically a state where we are not doing anything, we are not thinking about anything, but we are still conscious about everything going around us. Meditation has been practiced by several religious traditions and beliefs since antiquity, but it seems that every day there is a person getting his or her life changed by the same practice.
Over the years meditation has proven to be a very efficient way of easing some health issues as stress, anxiety, depression and high blood pressure. Meditation reduces sympathetic activation by reducing the release of catecholamine and other stress hormones such as cortisol, and promotes increased parasympathetic activity which in turn slows down the heart rate and improves blood flow.
Meditation can be done at any time of the day. In order to acquire better results, start with at least 10 minutes of meditation per day. Meditation is a habit, and as every habit it should be practiced on a consistent basis. This consistency also includes meditating at the same time every day. I advise you to do it early in the morning just as you wake up. That relaxed sensation will be with you all day long.
